  • Transferring your contacts from your old to your new Android device is quite simple.
  • By linking contacts to your Gmail address, you have all your contacts available everywhere and always, even if your phone, and thus your SIM card, is stolen.
  • You will need a Google account (Gmail address) for this. Make sure you have configured it beforehand for synchronisation with your old device.
  • Linking your contacts is not always done automatically, so follow these steps on how to add them manually.

  • On your old Android device, go to Contacts and open the options menu. Here you select Import/export contacts > Export to device storage.
  • Check the desired contacts or (in this case) check Select all to transfer all contacts.
  • Now select Export. If requested, enter a password for the file you can easily remember.

  • Return to Contacts and open the options menu again. Now select Import/export contacts > Import from device storage.
  • As the location to save the file, select Google (your Gmail account).
  • Check the desired contacts or (in this case) check Select all to transfer all contacts.
  • Now select Import. The contacts are now saved to your Gmail account. This may take a while, depending on the amount of data.

  • On average, it takes about 1 minute to synchronise all data.
  • You can check the progress of the synchronisation via the menu Settings, General, Accounts, Google > your Gmail address.

  • When this is completed, you have successfully linked your contacts to your Gmail address.
  • To transfer contacts to your new Android, go to Settings > General > Accounts on this device.

  • Select Add account > Google.
  • Now enter your e-mail address and click on NEXT.

  • Now enter your password and click on NEXT.
  • Follow the next steps until you are back in the Accounts menu.

  • Select Google and then select the account you just set.
  • Make sure the contact synchronisation option is enabled.
  • All contacts are now available on your new device.
  • Optional: further adjust the items list to include the ones you wish to synchronise and the ones you wish to exclude.
